Purpose and place of business
The Association for Neuropsychology Austria (Gesellschaft für Neuropsychologie Österreich - GNPÖ) represents more than 350 members (at Oct. 2013). As a non-profit organisation, the GNPÖ is sponsored by membership fees and contributions.
Essential functions of the GNPÖ are the safeguarding of their concerns within the psychological profession, the representing of professional policies as well as to promote any instances related to Neuropsychology to scientific areas and health care.
The GNPÖ works together with national associations for psychologists and international societies. There is a close cooperation between the GNPÖ and the Professional Association of Austrian Psychologists (Berufsverband Österreichischer Psychologinnen und Psychologen - BÖP) in regard to specific themes and to pre- and postgraduate teaching.
As one of the foundation members of the Federation of the European Societies of Neuropsychology (FESN), the GNPÖ cooperates with European national organisations in the field of neuroscience and their representatives.
Functions of the society are mainly the furtherance of the Neuropsychology and the contribution of the neuropsychological knowledge and advancements in the experimental, applied and clinical fields. The GNPÖ encourages and stimulates its members in their neuropsychological scopes of works.
These objectives are carried out by organizing an interdisciplinary congress, held yearly, and numerous pre- and postgraduate teachings, supervisions and meetings, concerning specific topics and geographical regions. In cooperation with the Austrian universities, a scientific advisory board has been nominated, which combines representatives of essential psychological institutes.
The development of national and international professional standards, are important issues of the quality management in the field of clinical Neuropsychology. The course of instruction for the certificate for Clinical Neuropsychology has formed the professional field.
